Raise your hand if you have sensitive teeth. Me, me, me! Just the thought of biting into ice-cold watermelon in the summertime should be refreshing, but it makes me shudder!! Popsicles, ice cream, any beverage with ice – all cringe-worthy! And I am not kidding when I say that I can feel a cold, windy day in my teeth!

I have found that it helps when a dentist paints on some fluoride in the office, but I need sensitive toothpaste in order to maintain the effect in between cleanings. Enter the new Tom’s of Maine Fluoride-Free Rapid Relief Sensitive Toothpaste.

After reading my post about my sensitive teeth here on the blog, Tom’s of Maine offered to send me a tube to try out. The new toothpaste uses a combination of arginine and calcium carbonate — both derived from natural sources — in order to seal the pathways to sensitive tooth nerves and to help block the pain. The stuff works – ’nuff said! It’s touted to work within 60 seconds, when rubbed directly on areas of sensitivity, which, with so many products on the market that can take weeks of cumulative effect to kick in, I found to be pretty exciting. I haven’t had an acute attack to put that method to the test, but with regular use, I have noticed that my teeth are less affected by cold. There are no artificial sweeteners, colors or flavors, and, no animal testing – thumbs up.

So while I won’t be chomping down on frozen fruit any time soon, I do want to share my favorite way to eat watermelon: with mint and honey.

I took this super simple three-ingredient watermelon salad to a party recently, and I had two people tell me that they loved the mint + melon combo.

I chopped up some of the fresh mint that is growing wildly in a wine barrel in my back yard, and added a heaped tablespoon of honey drizzled on top to balance out the bite. Yum!

Here’s the “recipe”:

-A couple of cups of watermelon balls

-About 5 mint leaves, minced

-1 tablespoon of honey

//Combine all and toss well!
