My approach to nutrition is simple: I try to eat from a plant, tree, or animal at every meal. I personally add fresh juice to my diet and do not advocate juice cleanses or fasts that eliminate eating whole foods. Nutrition News: Late Family Dinners, Healthy Lifestyle and Cancer, Divorced Men’s Diets

Image
Late family dinners Parents who are perpetually running behind schedule with the family dinner probably have a lot on their plates, but one thing they can worry less about is dooming their kids to obesity just because the evening meal is served late. While previous research has indicated that meal timing could boost the risk of being overweight or obese for children, a new U.K. study examining data from more than 1,600 kids, ages 4 to 18, found that the risk of being overweight or obese was no higher among kids who ate between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m . than it was among those served supper earlier in the day. Study author Gerda Pot, a visiting lecturer at King’s College London, told HealthDay News that she and her colleagues had “expected to find an association between eating later and being more likely to be overweight” and so found the study results “surprising.” Healthy life, long life How important is a healthy lifestyle – not smoking, drinking alcohol only moderately (if at all),

100 Pounds Lost, Type II Diabetes Gone, and High Blood Pressure Normalized After Going Primal

It’s Friday, everyone! And that means another Primal Blueprint Real Life Story from a Mark’s Daily Apple reader. If you have your own success story and would like to share it with me and the Mark’s Daily Apple community please contact me here . I’ll continue to publish these each Friday as long as they keep coming in. Thank you for reading! I have been intending to submit my success story for the last few years, and I now realize why I was waiting. Even though I have lived Primally for the last 4.5 years I only decided to become a Primal Blueprint Health Coach and start a Primal wellness business in the last several months. A chiropractor told me about Mark’s Daily Apple in August of 2010. I signed up immediately for the ‘weekly’ email, which turned out to be daily. I loved that pace of information flow. After 14 months of reading all I could from Mark’s Daily Apple, and independent researching, I finally believed those postings to have merit. The success stories carried the mos

Healthy Block Party Bites

Image
Many neighborhoods celebrate the warm weather by throwing block parties. Filled with tons of food, including burgers, hot dogs, steak, side salads, beverages and desserts, block parties make it tough to stick to a healthy eating plan. And with all that food and all those hungry hands, there’s also a chance of a food safety snafu. Before heading out to your local block party, keep these tips in mind — and share them with the neighborhood! Healthy Options You can usually find some healthy bites at a block party if you go simple. Grilled corn on the cob (without gobs of butter), grilled chicken and watermelon can make a healthful, well-balanced meal. Oftentimes, however, you can’t help but take multiple servings of the broccoli salad laden with mayo — or try one of every protein cooked on the grill. Let’s also not forget about tossing back a few (or more!) beers, plus dessert. Don’t worry. You can tote along some of these healthy bites to your next block party to make things a little b

Super Green Smoothie Bowl

This post is sponsored by Bounty Advanced Paper Towels Of all the fun foods that Mazen and I prepare together, smoothies are his favorite. Most likely because he loves pushing the blender buttons! Anyone who has ever cooked with kids knows that there will inevitably be a spill, in one way or another. Dripping sauces, sticky fingers or flinging sunflower butter flung everywhere – kids always manage to spread a little mess around. But of course, that’s all part of the fun! A Costco opened in Charlottesville this year, and so Mazen and I took a trip to join it. This was perfect timing because I needed to get some  Bounty Advanced Paper Towels for this recipe! Select-A-Size for the win! While sunflower butter ended up on the cabinets and on the back of Mazen’s PJs, my little helper knew exactly how to clean it up. We always turn our smoothies into popsicles, so this Super Green Smoothie Bowl is also a popsicle recipe! I let Mazen have popsicles morning, noon and snacktime be
