12 High-Intensity Running Workouts for Global Running Day

Image
Good morning! In honor of  Global Running Day  today, I wanted to share some of my very favorite high-intensity running workouts , which are my go-to form of exercise when I’m craving a tough, heart-pumping sweat session.  I love the constant variation and intensity of these workouts, which keeps both my mind and body challenged and engaged. This way of training torches some serious calories  and the short, fast intervals can even help you become a better runner. Awesome. If you’re planning to get your run on today, I hope you consider one of the workouts below! In celebration of Global Running Day, Brooks is sharing some really cool revelations about runners—from their source of inspiration to how they take advantage of post-run endorphins— in their fourth annual Brooks Global Run Happy Report . Many of the findings are summarized in the infographic below! from Carrots 'N' Cake http://ift.tt/1P3n0p7

The Health Paradox Paradox

Image
A paradox is an observation that contradicts a previously-held assumption about reality. But assuming the observation is true, a paradox isn’t really a paradox. It’s not the new observation that’s wrong or faulty or misinterpreted; it’s the assumption that contradicts reality and needs reworking. The history of science is littered with paradoxes that dissolved when previously held assumptions were modified under the weight of new observations. The health, fitness, and nutrition spheres are rife with presumptions, conventional wisdom that pretty much everyone—from authorities and experts on down to laypeople—holds to be true. But we’re finding that these presumptions are increasingly challenged by the steady onslaught of new observations. Some of the most notable presumptions include but aren’t limited to: The sun will kill you. Saturated fat clogs arteries. Animal protein gives you cancer. Cardio makes you immortal. Full-fat dairy will make you fat. Vegetable oils are healthiest

Fattoush Salad with Grilled Chicken

Image
I’m a sucker for a pretty salad — like this Fattoush Salad with Grilled Chicken with a lemony, herb-flecked vinaigrette. Have you heard of fattoush before? If not, you’re in for a delicious treat! The traditional fattoush salad, which originated in the Middle East, is a flavorful combination of fried or toasted pita bread mixed with fresh seasonal herbs and vegetables. Therein lies its versatility, as you can easily add your own spin of creativity with your favorite herbs, vegetables, bread and other healthy toppings. Grilled chicken adds a boost of lean protein to my version, and for those of you like myself who can’t eat gluten, I’ve swapped the pita for gluten-free pizza crust. Mix in some crisp bell peppers and cucumbers tossed with arugula and fresh Italian parsley, and top it all off with creamy feta cheese and lemon-oregano vinaigrette for a delicious and nourishing one-bowl meal.   Fattoush Salad with Grilled Chicken Serves: 4   Ingredients: Lemon-Oregano Dressing 1/4

Parade Of Mangos

Image
If you are what you eat, then I am a mango. Mazen LOVES “mingos,” and we’ve been eating them for our breakfasts for weeks and weeks. So much so that in my backlog of extra breakfast shots that I never shared, it’s all mango! We love the 5 for $5.00 champagne mangoes from Whole Foods. They are sweeter, softer, and smaller than the big ones. Here’s the parade: ^^Above is a Honey Whole Wheat roll with almond butter (and mango). ^^ Frothed coffee plus half a Fannetastic banana egg pancake (and mango). ^^Almond butter toast, coffee (and mango). ^^Morning glory muffin, egg, (and mango). ^^Double eggs, double toast, cappuccino, (and mango). ^^Mango for lunch! Spinach and cheese quesadilla (and mango). ^^And my little mango eater! (And mango ). from Kath Eats Real Food http://ift.tt/1sYAHlb
