Oooooh, yes. You heard that correctly: Sweet potato + dark chocolate + protein . Clearly, they’re not your typical cookie. The ingredients in these cookies are semi-healthy since they’re made with nutritious sweet potato and rolled oats, but the inclusion of dark chocolate morsels, creamy almond butter, and brown sugar make them an incredibly decadent treat at the same time. A scoop of vanilla protein powder adds some additional sweetness, but, more importantly, some serious staying power for an all-around stellar cookie that can be enjoyed as a pre- or post-workout snack as well as a dessert. We’re entering the lazy days of summer here, but I wonder how many people feel an increase in stress and obligations. Every year I feel like the sanctimonious leisure time of summer erodes at a more rapid pace. Whatever happened to summer as a time for R&R (especially for kids)? Of all our personal limited resources, I often wonder why rest gets such short shrift. Although our hunter-gatherer ancestors worked only about 12-20 hours a week, leaving virtually the whole day to rest, socialize and play, such is not the case for most of us today. We’re supposed to be busy (even on vacation). To sit in quiet or risk boredom isn’t the way of the world these days. So I’m going to venture that too many of us have forgotten what being rested actually feels like. In light of that, I thought I’d offer up a few suggestions to remedy the situation. Although I normally have a “game plan” when it comes to the specific meals I’ll be enjoying throughout the week, there are days when I come home from work and feel like going rogue. Whether or not you are a meal planner, having an arsenal of foolproof recipes you can effortlessly whip up in minutes is key to eating healthfully even on the busiest days. For me, flatbread pizza is one of them. We love   ACAC around here, and this year the waterpark is included in family memberships! I went once before when Mazen was younger, but this was our first big summertime visit. We both loved it! Seven things that were awesome: There are three pools: a huge lap pool, a kids’ pool with lots of ropes (for kids of different ages to be corralled), and a baby pool that is fenced in with a splash pad; The waterslides were fun!
