MOST of my life I was fairly fit, few ups and downs, but overall I was pretty fit. Then somehow it started to change….nothing crazy at first but a few pounds here and there. But hey we all age and you can always find someone more out of shape than you to compare to. At one physical a doc said I was obese, what the hell, no way, not me, not even close…..obese is the people on my 600lb life, I laughed it off…..fast forward a few years and still adding pounds on. Still very active, snowboarding, mountain bikes. Didn’t really notice. Well, one night after a few beers, I was ge

Long, laborious hours over a stove and tasting dishes on the fly don’t exactly breed nourishment, but chefs know that sticking to a few easy healthy food habits can punctuate a demanding, exhausting industry with much-needed moments of calm and clarity. Could not concentrate. Struggled significantly with keeping his focus. In the classroom, his teacher modified his tests to ask half the number of questions his peers answered. His mom constantly had to remind him to stay on task—clean his room, complete his homework, focus on finishing what he started. And his soccer coach asked him to run an extra lap or two during practice—noting he had lots of energy to get out. Based on his behaviors and difficulty with concentration and task completion, the pediatrician diagnosed Matthew with ADHD—something he said he, “Sees all the time in kids…Normal.” And nothing that a little bit of medication or therapy could

Gus got to go to school with Mazen yesterday as part of his “Special Friend” week where he is the star and his classmates get to learn more about his favorite things, friends, family, etc. Mazen was SO PROUD of Gus, and showed the class how he can sit, lay down, and shake for a treat. We’ve been eating well this week because I finally got some more Great Harvest pancake mix! There is nothing quite as gooooood. These are so hearty! I get kind of down on green salads when the weather is cold, so I have a lot more tuna and sardine salads. This one was a simple mix of albacore tuna, mayo, mustard, relish, paprika, salt, pepper, chopped pickles, chopped banana peppers, and carrots. Served with chips! I’ve been Cook Smarting and made this Mojo pork in the crockpot not too long ago. It was a mix of tropical flavors like OJ and lime and spices lik
