Day Trip to Littleton

Image
Rise ‘n’ shine, it’s breakfast time! I tried out a new “recipe” yesterday morning as a way to incorporate pumpkin seeds into my day. (I’m onto Phase 2 of Kelli’s seed cycling protocol .) In the mix: Sliced banana, collagen , pumpkin seeds , sunflower butter , and almond milk. I envisioned a cereal-like breakfast, but it didn’t quite do the trick. It definitely needed something more, so I ended up adding a handful of Pumpkin Spice Cheerios halfway through eating it – much better! I typically get up super early in the morning to work before Mal and Quinn wake up. Quinn slept until 7:40 AM (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), so Mal was awake, pouring himself an iced coffee, and not-so-secretly making fun of my “intense” working face. Derp. At least, I can laugh at myself! Once Quinn was awake and everyone ate breakfast, it was time for a road tip out to Littleton, where Mal and I grew up and our parents still live today. These two are usually best buds, but, apparently, Murphy had some seriously...

Home » Diet & Nutrition August 15, 2017 Adaptogens: Maca Root, Sea Buckthorn Oil, and Schisandra By Mark Sisson 0 Comments   Print I’ve covered a number of adaptogens over the past few months including American and Asian ginseng , ashwagandha, astragalus, and holy basil — and for good reason. They offer an effective means to combat stress as well as boost health and performance from a number of angles. See what you think. From Dirt to Dispensary: The Life Cycle of Your Adaptogen Maca Root (Lepidium Meyenii) Maca is a cruciferous biennial herb that hails from the high Andean peaks of Peru. Grown primarily for its fleshy root, maca is similar in growing habit and size to turnips and radishes. Its green, fragrant tops grow above ground, but most of the act...

Moroccan Lentil Salad with Lemon Yogurt Sauce

Image
Remember a few weeks ago when I had the Moroccan Lentil Salad at Claire’s house? She came over last week so we could make it together and share the official recipe. It’s a good one! I met Claire at the gym last fall when she was new to town. She now teaches Afterburn, and she can do an insane amount of pull-ups! Claire is the founder and trainer of Fleur de Lis Fitness . She works with fitness clients locally here in Charlottesville as well as across the world virtually using FaceTime, Skype, and YouTube so you guys can get the same butt-kicking workouts that I can at my gym! (I wonder if she could teach an online Afterburn for us all….?!) Check out Claire’s blog  and  Instagram   —  she’s got some great posts  and does meal coaching as well. This Moroccan salad is great as a lunch, a light dinner, or served underneath a protein, like seared chicken or fish, for a heartier meal. The bottom part is all plant-based, but the lemon-feta yogurt sauce really make...
