The Friday 5

Hi, happy Friday and happy August!

It’s so crazy how fast this summer is flying by! This weekend, we’re off to Stowe Mountain Lodge for our annual family trip. The resort has invited us to visit the past two years, and we look forward to all year long. We seriously cannot wait to be there!

In today’s edition of The Friday 5, there’s a mix of everything from family entertainment to travel accessories and a supplement that helps me stay calm and carry on! 😉

Enjoy your weekend, friends!

1. Shark Duvet and Pillowcase Set – There’s also a dinosaur, astronautprincess, mermaid, and unicorn version! How fun is this for a 5-year-old?! Quinn is getting a big boy bed soon, so I think these would be the perfect sheets for it!

2. You Verse Wild – This is such a fun show to watch with Quinn and Mal. It’s basically a “pick your own adventure,” so you interact with your TV and pick how the host will decide what to do next. It’s definitely a good time for the whole family!

3. Stasher Silicone Reusable Sandwich Baggies – I’m slowly, but surely becoming semi-obsessed about our family’s use of plastic. One easy thing to swap out has been plastic baggies (I mean, ugh, think about how wasteful they are!). Stasher bags are a bit of investment, but definitely worth it in my option. They’re easy to wash and are perfect to pack in kids’ lunches, take on road trips, in your carry-on, etc. The snack size one has been perfect for Quinn’s lunches!

Related: I’m also loving these bee’s wax wraps. It’s just like plastic wrap, but it’s reusable! You just rinse with soap and water!

4. Convertible Travel Pillow Infinity Scarf – Soft, warm, and stylish infinity scarf hides an inflatable pillow to make travel more comfortable. I love things that are both cute and functional, especially for travel. Plus, planes are always freezing, so the scarf is perfect to keep you warm without being bulky.

5. Natural Calm – I take this powered magnesium supplement pretty much everyday. I just add some to my water – I use the raspberry-lemon flavor, so it adds a little something! 🙂 Most of us are deficient in magnesium, and it’s important for quality sleep, stress management, muscle soreness, and more. I definitely notice a difference when I take it regularly versus when I don’t!

13 Keto Frozen Treats

A special thanks to Courtney Hamilton at for today’s keto recipe roundup.

Popsicles, ice cream, and icy drinks—did you say goodbye to all these summer treats when you embarked on a keto diet? Well, with these recipes, you can have your frozen goodie and fuel ketosis, too.

These low-carb frozen keto treats cull everything that’s great about an icy-cool dessert, but cut out all the sugar, additives, and excess carbs.

Enjoy simple 3-ingredient chocolate Popsicles, or jazz them up with a chocolate drizzle and a sprinkle of sea salt.

Cool down with gorgeously swirly coconut milk Popsicles sweetened naturally with blueberries, lime juice, and mint. If you’re a chocolate lover, try an amazingly fudgy Popsicle or a no-churn ice cream.

Get ready to cool down this summer with your favorite frosty keto treat!

PaleoHacks | Copycat Starbucks Keto White Drink

Drive up to this healthy homemade version of a Starbucks classic when you blend wholesome ingredients like peach white tea, coconut cream, and vanilla extract with a cup of ice.

Ketogasm | Keto Popsicles with Coconut Milk

Coconut milk and blueberries swirl together with lime juice and mint for a beautifully sophisticated pop.

PaleoHacks | Keto Chocolate Frosty

You’ll still have to choose between straw and a spoon when you cozy up to this thick and chocolatey favorite.

Sugar-Free Mom | Keto Strawberry Fudge Popsicles

Think of chocolate-covered strawberries, only frozen and on a stick!

What Great Grandma Ate | Creamy Keto Fudgesicles

It’s a rich and creamy take on a classic, but without all the sugar.

Healthy Little Peach | Strawberry and Cream Popsicles

You only need a handful of ingredients, a blender, and a Popsicle mold to whip up these icy cold treats.

The Big Man’s World | 3-Ingredient Keto Vanilla Ice Cream

Do you have a can of coconut milk, some cashew butter, and vanilla stevia? Then you can enjoy this easy-peasy, no-churn ice cream.

Gnom-Gnom | 3-Ingredient Paleo and Keto Chocolate Popsicles

We love the plain chocolate version, but you can jazz things up with a dark chocolate drizzle, toasted nuts, or a touch of espresso powder.

Sugar-Free Mom | Keto Butter Pecan Ice Cream

Use an ice cream maker to get this classic flavor as fluffy and pure as the original.

Peace Love and Low Carb | Mixed Berry Coconut Creamsicles

It’s like your favorite fruit salad, mixed with cream and popped onto a stick.

Gnom-Gnom | No Churn Paleo and Keto Vanilla Ice Cream

Your ice cream scooper will be begging to dig into this full-fat, uber-creamy treat.

Beaming Baker | 4-Ingredient Almond Butter Ice Cream

We love a tasty spoonful of almond butter, but it’s infinitely better when blended with coconut cream and stashed in the freezer for awhile.

I Breathe I’m Hungry | No Churn Keto Chocolate Ice Cream

Whipped egg whites are the secret behind this intensely indulgent treat.

Life Between Naps

I mentioned the concept of a compressed work week in my Monday post. I love the idea of it, even for someone like me who decides when I do whatever I need to do. But I actually feel the need to do the opposite right now and spreading out my task list to all seven days. Our beloved babysitter, Emily, moved to DC for her dietetic internship, and so I’m finding ways to get my posts written, client recipes done, and Beautycounter tasks, among other things, finished during nap time. That means that time blocks are short and unpredictable. Posts like this one are easy enough to do, but posts that require procuring ingredients; prepping, cooking and shooting a recipe; food styling, photography, cleaning the kitchen, photo processing, writing the post, and sometimes editing back and forth with client approvals – now that takes longer than a nap time to do! (I don’t know how you recipe-only bloggers do it! Batch days I suppose?) I’m having to revert to some evenings and weekends when Thomas is here to get a little bit of work in. And I’m actually OK with that because it means Birch and I get to have more playdates and fun during the week.

French Breakfast

Since our heat wave broke just a little I’ve been on walks downtown twice within the last week. Once for coffee (iced latte from Mudhouse!) and once with some other moms to Petite MarieBette where I picked up a croissant. Birchie got a little bite of croissant and was quite pleased!

Tomato Lessons

This is a grocery store heirloom with mozzarella and basil. Our tomatoes are just not coming out this year. We think deer might be eating them. Or maybe we planted them too late. I hope we get at least a few this year!

BBQ Chicken

T made this delicious grilled chicken for dinner.

Fun fact: BBQ chicken on the grill was the first meal he ever made for me, and I snuck this photo of him! I think it was the first photo I ever took of him, and I probably sent it to all of my BFFs 🙂

Chicken with risotto + goat cheese zucchini

(an old Blue Apron recipe we still make! Just toss cooked zucchini in goat cheese, salt, and pepper and let it melt.)

Moments after I fished a piece of mulch out of his mouth…

Big boy is standing!!

Eggs, blueberries + muffin to start the day

Post soccer freezer meal

Frozen fish filet (from Whole Foods) in a tortilla with greens, cilantro, yogurt dressing and sriracha!

Have a happy day!
