There Is No More Chasing the Ups and Downs

It’s Monday, everyone! And that means another Primal Blueprint Real Life Story from a Mark’s Daily Apple reader. Yup, success stories are back! And I’m looking for more. Follow-ups, mid-progress reflections—every story at every stage has the potential to inspire folks out there who are getting started or contemplating a new beginning. Contact me here to share your story—long or not so long. You never know who you’ll impact by doing it. Enjoy, everyone!

Hi Mark, My name is Tiffany Valvo. I don’t have time to write an elaborate story, but I think most people are familiar with “my” story anyway!

I grew up on the SAD diet… struggled with my weight immensely. I couldn’t be a normal kid because of it, but thankfully I was good in school and was naturally a positive kid, so it didn’t destroy my childhood most days.

I am a high achiever and went to a conservatory for my master’s degree and then started my doctorate. At the very end of the second year of my doctorate, my car was stolen. I was tired. I was teaching and going to school, and I just didn’t understand why I always felt terrible. Couldn’t open my eyes in the morning. But, I was doing all the right things…vegetarian, low calorie, cardio.

I started walking a lot because of my car, and was passing the time by listening to podcasts. By the grace of the universe, I randomly found Robb Wolf’s podcast, and then yours.

About a week later, I went paleo, cold turkey. That was in June of 2015. Since then, I’ve kept off about 50 pounds, but that’s not the victory. The victory is that I feel wonderful. I have incredible amounts of energy, I feel in control of my mind, and I can keep doing the things I want to do to contribute to the world.

I still have a little ways to go, but one of the things other than the energy and mind clarity I am most thankful for is effortless maintenance. I know what I can eat. There is no more chasing the ups and downs.

The people in this movement are freaking heroes.

Have a story to share? Email me here. Thanks, everybody, and have a great week.

Camp Fired Up

Half of us went camping this weekend! And the other half stayed cozy in our cribs : )

Friday Taco Night

On Friday night we were a little unorganized for dinner, and our neighbors asked if we wanted to hop on some Brazos Tacos take-out. Don’t have to ask me twice! Brazos has a great order online feature that made it super easy for us to order and our neighbor picked it up for us. Two families, one stone!

This is my yam + Flora + salad

Evening sips

Thomas and Mazen departed at 7:45am for Mazen’s first camping trip! They were joined by Thomas’s good friend Kyle and his son, Atlee. They set up camp next to the James River and used James River Runners for the canoe rental and shuttle. They did tons of fishing too!

Birch + Mommy Saturday

B and I had a very low key weekend. We played at home, went to the grocery store, and skipped naps!

I had a smoothie for breakfast, farro salad for lunch, and a Roots bowl for dinner with some girlfriends!

We had a little mom party and got the babies together.

After putting B to bed, I watched some TV and headed up to bed to find a big spider in my room! This is the face of someone confronting her fears and sucking it up with the vacuum. The vacuum then slept outside because if you’ve ever watched a horror movie you know things come back to life and haunt you down!

It was lonely without the big boys here! B and Gus and I hung around all morning.

I made Emily’s rice cooker baked apples for Birch. He wasn’t too into them based on their appearance, but once I got him to taste them with a spoon he was a fan. I LOVE them myself! Chopped apples + 1/3 cup water + cinnamon + Quick Cook setting.

Mazen had s’mores for breakfast. Lucky boy! They got home around 10 and had a great report.

Maybe next time Birch and I will be brave and join them. I’d like more than a hole in the ground or a porta john though! Running water is a must for me.
