The Friday 5

Image
Hi and happy Friday! It was a slow start to the (work) week. Quinn was sick and home with me on Monday and Tuesday (poor kid), so Wednesday and Thursday were a total blur catching up with 1:1 nutrition clients, group conversation and questions for the Macro Motivation Challenge (we ended up with 49 women!), book edits, emails, beta testing workouts , yada yada… I have a feeling today is going to be very much of the same! Friday means it’s time for another edition of the Friday 5 where I share my top 5 favorites from the week. It’s quite the random mix today – hope you enjoy! Have a lovely weekend, friends! 1. @thepugqueen If you love pugs as much as I do and aren’t following @thepugqueen on Instagram , you must! She’s a pug rescuer and posts the sweetest photos of pugs. Her rescue work is absolutely incredible. Her main focus is China since pugs are often abused and even eaten there. She’s even hired workers and secured a pug “safe house” for the pugs she rescues before they can

Dear Mark: How Often I Eat Organ Meat and Should You Take Metformin for Longevity?

Image
For today’s edition of Dear Mark, I’m answering a couple questions taken from Instagram followers. Normally every Wednesday, I do a quick Q&A on Instagram . I wasn’t able to get to them last week so I’ll be answering some here on the blog. First, how often do I eat organ meat, and how do I like it? And finally, what’s the deal with using metformin for longevity? Let’s go: How often do you eat organ meats? Maybe twice a month. I should probably do it more. It’s not that I dislike them. Every time I eat heart or liver, I enjoy it. It’s not something that comes intuitively to me. Because I wasn’t raised in a household where organs were a normal part of the daily diet, I have to remind myself to do it. If you’re counting marrow, I eat that far more frequently. I order it every time I see it on a menu. I eat lamb chops frequently, which often come with little pockets of marrow. And personally, I include eggs and shellfish as “organs.” Reason being, you’re eating the entire orga

How To Declutter Your Kitchen Cabinets

Image
I am constantly getting rid of things I don’t use and brainstorming ways to rearrange what I do use to create more efficient systems in my whole house. Let me show you my home neat home methods in the kitchen and how to declutter your kitchen cabinets in 5 steps. Clutter will always come in Fact: no matter how hard you try, you can’t make your cabinet space grow bigger. So you have to make your stuff shrink! I declutter my kitchen cabinets a few times a year. Like all home organization systems, stuff comes in more than it goes out so over time we tend to accumulate. Kids cups, coffee to-go mugs, extra Tupperware – where does this stuff even come from!? Opening a kitchen cabinet to find an avalanche of plastic cups is no way to live. I’ve organized large kitchens and small kitchens – there will always be a kitchen storage shortage, so we have to shrink what we have to fit. Inventory Day While I thin out my kitchen a few times a year, it’s a good idea to have an inventory day where

Meal Prep Snacks

Image
If meal prep snacks are a hangup for you, I’m here to tell you it’s the easiest type of “meal” you could ever prep. Some folks get hung up on the snacking side of meal prep because they are looking to either balance macros, or struggle with the desire to snack but not blow their eating plan. The good news is, snacking is not a sin and absolutely SHOULD be part of a healthy diet. We tend to look at snacks as unhealthy things. But get it clear in your mind that a snack is not the same as a treat. While you could certainly have a treat as a snack, a snack should not always be a treat. Think of snacking as just a small meal to keep you going between larger meals. Just a little something to keep the tummy grumbles at bay. Because we all know that it’s far easier to stick to an eating plan when you aren’t starving for your next meal. TYPES OF MEAL PREP SNACKS So the trick then becomes, what type of snacks should you be prepping? Snacks, if properly planned, should enhance your ov
