Stuck at home? Here’s how to maintain your fitness without a gym

Stuck at home? Here are two great ways to maintain your fitness without a gym. How to maintain fitness without a gym 1. DITCH THE ALL OR NOTHING APPROACH Yea, the gyms are closed. It sucks. Maybe it’s even too cold to go outside or your kids are home. So. What. It is what it is. What are you going to do about it? Accept and adjust. Maybe you can’t hit the weight rack or maybe you miss the treadmill or your favorite Orangetheory instructor. Find something you can do right where you are and JUST DO IT. Grab some water jugs and turn them into weights. Deadlift a boulder in your backyard. Do jumping jacks or jump rope. Push-ups, sit-ups, and burpees don’t need any equipment or much space either. Check out this video for more ideas! Something is better than nothing, and playing a victim in all this gets you NOWHERE. 2. INVEST IN A WORKOUT PROGRAM Sure, all of the free workouts going around is great! I love how everyone is set to give, give, give right now. Keep it coming

What Your Relationship with Food Says About You

Measuring. Counting. Depriving. IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros). Labeling as good or bad. Cheat day. Diet. Guilt-free. I could go on and on. I’m so over all the ways we inadvertently sabotage ourselves. Maybe you are too. Maybe you’re so sick of being stuck on what you think you should be doing, that you’ve lost sight of what your body actually needs you to do. It’s not your fault though. Your beliefs, your background, your moral compass, and your social circles all play a role. In fact, there’s a direct correlation between how you talk about food and your relationship to it. Tell me if any of these statements sound familiar: “Carbs are evil.” “I deserve this dessert.” “I’m too lazy to make breakfast.” “I’m fasting today to make up for yesterday.” “I only eat junk food when I’m stressed.” “I didn’t want to waste it.” “I was bored.” “I was bad today.” In my health coaching practice, I hear things like this all the time. And when I dig deeper, which I always do, these statemen

Food 4 Thought

^^ My sweet snuggle boy! He’s getting 3 new teeth! Here’s what we’ve been eating. Breakfasts Cinnamon Chip French toast + oranges. The only fruits we’ve had during week 2 of our grocery shop are apples and oranges. And frozen fruits. I’m eating an orange or two a day. Breakfast in bed! On Saturday morning the smell of country ham wafted upstairs. Thomas delivered this a few minutes later <3 JM Stock biscuit and ham (both from our freezer). I made some little pancake muffins as an experiment – they turned out pretty good! Peanut butter melted on top. Splendid Spoon + coffee in the playroom. Lunches Via Plenty Cville – a Pie Chest sausage, honey and goat cheese hand pie and Plenty salad. A happy day!! Same thing, different day. Splendid Spoon Curry Cashew rice bowl with plain yogurt on top There are brand new flatbreads from Daily Harvest !!! They’re all plant based and packed with veggies, from the crust to the toppings. They are also gluten-free and vegan. (Alt

Italian Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

This Italian Shepherd’s pie is a delicious switch from the traditional version. Yes, I’m fully aware that Shepherd’s Pie is not an Italian dish. But this is basically a cross between a pot pie (the crust) and a shepherd’s pie. Add some cheese and Italian herb mix, and you end up with something called an Italian Shepherd’s Pie. Makes perfect sense to me…. Now with this much cheese, I would consider this meal a “clean treat/cheat” meal. But I firmly believe we need those on occasion. I hope you’ll enjoy it. HOW TO MAKE THIS DISH This is actually a very easy recipe to make. The biggest part of this is making the pie crust, and that’s not a big deal either. I recommend making the pie crust first and setting that aside. You can even make it ahead of time if you really want to save some time when you get ready to make and serving this dish. Get the pie crust into a pie pan and then work on the filling. You’ll preheat your oven, and then start cooking the filling on your stove top.
