Eating 1,200 Calories Will Not Get You ‘Toned’

Image
Let’s say you’re trying to gain lean muscle… in other words, look like you actually workout. Well, without the proper nutrition, gaining muscle will be very difficult. ⠀ You’ll likely need to eat more calories than usual and actually (gasp!) gain a little scale weight in order to achieve that goal. By eating more calories while focusing on a strength training regimen, you’ll increase your lean body mass and increase your metabolism, ultimately changing your physique. That’s when you look ‘toned.’ You can’t gain lean muscle and lose fat and remain in a significant caloric deficit all at the same time. If you want to gain muscle and burn fat you’ve got to eat more. And that means more than 1,200 calories per day for most active women. Yes, you need to EAT in order to gain muscle. ⠀ Do you have trouble building muscle? If you’re ready to commit to a strength training program and build some muscle,  StrongMadeSimple  is for you!  A 6-WEEK TOTAL BODY STRENGTH SOLUTION FOR

Are Nightshades Bad for You?

If you’ve spent any amount of time here on Mark’s Daily Apple, you know we love our vegetables. Plant foods are powerhouses of nutrients and antioxidant action. They’re the backbone of a solid Primal diet, and the main event in my signature Big Ass Salad. But the issue of nightshades has come up quite a bit over the years. Nightshade vegetables, which are vegetables that belong to the Solanaceae family of plants, include a long list of veggies and spices: eggplant, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, pimentos, paprika, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, etc. (Black pepper isn’t a part of this list.) I do eat a lot of these foods, but they’re not for everyone. In this article, we’ll dig into why some people simply can’t do nightshades, and how to tell whether you should eat them or not. Stay on track, even on the go! Instantly download your Primal and Keto Guide to Dining Out What Are Nightshades? Nightshade vegetables are the vegetables that grow from plants in the Solanaceae fam

12th (Anniversary) on the 12th

Mal and I celebrated 12 years of marriage yesterday. It was our 12th anniversary on July 12th aka our golden anniversary, right? 🙂 It was a fairly low-key celebration, but still really nice. Plus, now we can add “celebrate an anniversary during a pandemic” to our relationship! Mal and Quinn slept in super late, but I was up and at ’em making a special breakfast. We had croissants (from Trader Joe’s), bacon (obviously, Niman Ranch), eggs and toast (for Mal), cherries (for Quinn), and I had a crepe with chocolate and banana inside. Yummmmm! After breakfast, we took Murphy for a family walk and then packed up for an afternoon at Funny Farm . The weather forecast said it was going to be 90 degrees (!!) that afternoon, so  swimming in the pool was the way to go! We packed a lunch and snacks to eat at the pool. We stay until the early afternoon and then headed home for part 2 of our anniversary celebration. When we got home, it was time for presents. Mal’s wrapping job = nearly 1

Summer Favorites Round Up

Image
Here is a big roundup of some of my summer finds and favorites from books to towels and white noise. What I’ve Been Reading Before We Were Yours – Amazing story! Best book I’ve read since Where The Crawdads Sing and The Great Alone .  The story is emotional and heart wrenching at times, but it left me thinking and Googling. Two By Two – This was one of my least favorite Nicholas Sparks books ever. I pretty much hated the whole thing. I found the characters very unrelatable, the story predictable, and the ending horrible. Such A Fun Age – In the middle of this one and it’s so good. Very timely because there are threads of race issues throughout. The author does an amazing job getting into the psyche of the characters. It reads like one long stream of consciousness to me. How to Be Antiracist – In the first half of this too. I tend to pick up my fiction at night so my pace is slow, but so far I’m finding it very good! American Dirt – Thomas is reading this now, and so m
