Chocolate Cherry Dough Boy Smoothie
Cherry season is short but sweet. Just like Irish Soda Bread in March or all the eggnog flavored things in December, I think the fact that you can’t really eat cherries year round makes me like them even more. They are one of my favorite fruits.
I was excited to show Mazen how to eat one now that I feel he’s old enough to understand that there’s a pit to spit out. One would assume that any food that involves permission to spit would be right up his ally! So I excitedly bought a bag of cherries a few weeks ago, and had Mazen watch me as I demonstrated eating the cherry off the stem and then spitting out the pit.
His response:
“That’s disgusting Mommy.”
HA!!
So I had a lot of cherries to use up that week. I turned this into a dough boy smoothie a.k.a. blended overnight oats with some chocolate protein powder I had on hand from Arbonne.
Don’t forget to take the pits out first! I just smashed each cherry with a knife and the pits came right out. Watch for splatters on your clothes! No fancy cherry pitter necessary, although if you have one I’m sure you may be much more efficient : )
Put the ingredients in the blender, mix, and chill overnight. The oats will soak up the liquid and give the smoothie a thicker, doughy texture.
In the morning, blend until smooth and enjoy in a bowl with a drizzle of drippy peanut butter and a dusting of coconut.
