5 Years Old!

Mazen is 5 years old! He started from here…

Look at how cute he was!!

(I still dream about that cake…)

Speaking of cake… I tend to give it a lot of attention too!

Turning 5 comes with new challenges and joys.

On the challenge front, if Mazen doesn’t want to do something or go somewhere, I can’t just pick him up and put him in the car seat. We have to negotiate and figure out a middle ground. Meal times are a lot more complicated compared to when I could feed him 100% milk (and we do have some challenges with attitude and discipline from time to time).

But overall, the joys of doing activities together, playing games, having conversations, and continuing to see the world through his little eyes are wonderful. I love experiencing things I loved as a child – the beach, the cute things he does at school, (ahem) candy! – again, with him.

At the age of 5, Mazen loves:

  • Riding his bike
  • Superheros
  • The pool
  • Putt-putt
  • Gum
  • Gus
  • NERF (and everything about Ryan’s Toy Videos)
  • Best Fiends (the game I did a post about!)
  • Playing outside with the neighbors
  • Making forts
  • Candyland and UNO
  • Turk, his turtle (who joins me in bed every morning)
  • The ocean

This weekend we are heading to the beach with Thomas’s family. Mazen thinks we’re going tomorrow, but we are surprising him with a birthday dinner AT the beach and leaving this afternoon. I can’t wait to give the beach one more go this year!
