How Long Does It Take for Fitness Benefits to Show?

Image
A big reason most people never stick to a serious exercise routine is that the benefits most people are interested in take a while to appear. Fat loss, muscle gain, boosts to strength, speed, and stamina—these physical manifestations of training adherence can take weeks and even months to show. That’s plenty of time for folks to give up, convinced exercise is just not for them. I get it. I do. But that’s not a valid excuse for not exercising. You know it’s important, you know what the benefits are, and I’m not going to sugarcoat things: training is not optional. So while we can’t really change when the benefits appear, we can change our expectations of the benefits, making them more realistic and limiting our disappointment when they fail to show in our preferred timing. So when can we expect some benefits from our hard work? Some benefits “show” immediately as long as you have the right tools to test them. If you were to take a muscle biopsy, you’d see that muscle protein synthes

Myth or Fact? Artificially-Colored Foods Are Bad for You

Ever wonder how some of your favorite foods are made? And if they’re supposed to be that color? We’re cracking the code on some infamous colored foods to find out if they naturally occur that way or if they had some help. Color Me Unhealthy? Many beloved foods we eat everyday are doctored with colorings to improve visual appeal. In some cases these colorful enhancements are food based and therefore safe, but others have potentially harmful chemical infusions. According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest , eating these synthetic dyes may pose harm and cause behavioral problems, especially in children. Highly processed foods like soda, commercial baked goods, candy, frozen treats, salty snacks (think cheese doodles) and kids’ breakfast cereals are some of the worst and most obvious offenders. Potentially dangerous yellow 5, red 40 and red 3 dyes are found in numerous foods, and have been linked to behavioral problems and allergic reactions. Europe has imposed strict b

Overnight Everything

Good morning! As I am writing this post there is a man banging things around in my attic. The gas furnace leaked into the office, and while the leak was not a bad one, I am kind of scared to know what this is going to cost to fix. He has been up there a while! My latest breakfast obsession is a cross between chia pudding and overnight oats . Are you even surprised?! Basically I make classic yogurt/milk/oat overnight oats and add a bunch of extra chia seeds and a little extra milk. The result is a thick oaty yogurty breakfast with a pudding-like texture. Some of you are excited. Some of you are probably rolling your eyes at that description. But if you’re a texture person like I am, you’ll love this! Peanut butter and banana on top keep it simple while adding fruit and flavor. Those of you with more of a sweet tooth might want to add a little maple syrup or a honey drizzle. It’s not a brand new smashing recipe, but it’s a solid one!! Overnight Everything 6080642 Ingredi
