My Love for Coffee Finally Paid Off

Hey, hey! Happy Friday, friends!

I’m so glad that the weekend is just about here! We’re celebrating Mal’s birthday this weekend, and I cannot wait. I love birthdays so much! Well, ok, I’m just meh about my own, but I love celebrating other people’s birthdays! 🙂

So, recently, I’m on the hunt for the perfect protein oatmeal combo that I can make in the microwave. I’m coming close to an awesome recipe, but I haven’t nailed it down yet. Will report back. Side note: I recently switched the type of collagen that I use to a marine one because I have a sensitivity to beef. I knowwwwww. With summer and barbecues right around the corner, it’s going to be so sad saying no to burgers right off the grill!

After breakfast, I got to work on a “live” photo shoot that I did with the National Honey Board. I photographed four recipes on Monday, but then ran out of sunlight, so we bumped the final one. And, guys, I seriously can’t wait to share this collection of recipes with you!! So much deliciousness!

Poor Murphy is always SO HUNGRY.

Once I wrapped up the photo shoot, I snacked on a rice cake with some Honey White Bean Hummus on top (aka “cookie dough” to Quinn).

I ate the rice cake while cleaning up the house after the photo shoot, and I made such a mess. The rice cake basically exploded in my hand, but, of course, Murphy was on clean-up duty in 2 seconds!

After that, I headed out for a quick run. My legs felt like a million pounds, and I stopped to walk at one point, but I had NO HIP PAIN and it was the farthest I’ve run in 2017! 🙂

After my run, I quickly showered and then grabbed my lunch to go. I met Kerrie at KFIT to talk about a few DTFN things and ate my lunch.

And raspberries!

Then, it was time to record a podcast for Fit Bottomed Girls! We chatted about all things Designed to Fit Nutrition, and we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s live! 🙂

After that, we stopped by the Capital One Cafe for a meeting with a marketing company that we’re hiring for DTFN. We finalized some details, and we can’t wait to get started with them! Kerrie and I have had our noses in our computers for months now, so we’re excited to finally amp things up and spread the word about DTFN!

Before I left Derby Street, I swung by Barnes & Noble to grab the June issue of Runner’s World.

My love for coffee finally paid off! Check out my ideas for “quick bites” that pair well with coffee! So cool!

After that, I picked Qman up from school and headed home. He was hungry and asked me for what sounded like “Thomas and milk,” which I soon realized was HUMMUS and milk. Haha! I was hungry too, so Qman and I had a little happy hour on the porch while we waited for Dada to get home.

When Mal got home, we took Murphy for a family walk around the neighborhood. Qman decided to wear his Batman rain boots, which wasn’t the best decision considering it was 90 degrees outside.

His feet were “so hot” when we got home. Poor kid, but he learned an important life lesson! 🙂

I Tried Goat Milk (and Liked It)

Good morning, friends! How’s your Thursday going so far?

I feel like this week has been a whirlwind, which is a nice change from the previous couple of weeks where I felt like I was a day ahead, but life was really a day behind. Whomp whomp. Anyway, my morning yesterday started bright and early with a walk around the neighborhood with my favorite pug dog. I typically walk Murphy before Mal leaves for school, and I soooo love our early morning routine together.

After our walk, it was time for coffee! My taste for it has come back (hooray!), but I don’t crave it like I used to… well, in the quantities that I used to. I used to drink coffee all morning long. I would typically stop in the afternoon (unless it was a special occasion), but I would sometimes drink three 16-ounce glasses most mornings. Now, I’m good with one 16-ouncer in the morning and don’t crave anymore once I finish it. It’s quite the change for me, but I like it. It makes me appreciate my morning glass of Joe a lot more.

Recently, I started using goat milk in my iced coffee. I got the green light on trying dairy in my diet, but Kelli suggested easing in with goat milk products first. It’s typically easier to digest than cow’s milk and so far, so good!

I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about the taste of goat milk, so I was kind of expecting the worst when I tried it, but it’s actually really good! It reminds me of the leftover milk after eating a bowl of Rice Chex. Is that weird? Maybe? Well, that’s what it tastes like to me. I guess it’s just a tad sweeter than regular milk. I definitely like it and see it as a regular addition to my morning iced coffee routine in the future. I also like its nutrition facts – it’s way more nutritious that other milk alternatives that I’ve tried!

With iced coffee in hand, I sat down at my laptop and got to work until Quinn woke up. Once he’s awake, we cuddle on the couch for a bit and then I get him ready for school. He’s obsessed with the kid’s multivitamin gummies from Whole Foods lately, so once he’s ready to go, he gets one for the ride to school.

I drop Qman off at school and then head straight to Starbucks to get my work on. While there, I break into my breakfast that I brought from home: Scrambled egg whites with kale and chicken sausage. My photo doesn’t do it justice, but I swear it was an awesome breakfast!

Mid-morning, I started to get a little hungry, and I had an Orangetheory class on the agenda, so I snack on a banana.

Then, I pack up my things, and it’s OTF time! I hadn’t worked out in 5 days, so I was really excited about a tough sweat session!

I leave class a sweaty mess and pop over to Bed, Bath & Beyond to grab a few props for a photo shoot with the National Honey Board the next day.

Then, it’s off to Fresh Market to grab a few groceries for the photo shoot. While there, I grab a free sample of their Spring Blend, which has flavors of caramel and butterscotch in it. Hellllloooo! Delicious!

After running my errands, I walk back to my car and enjoy the sunshine. We’ve had a gloomy spring here, so it was really nice to finally see some SUN!

When I arrived home, I was more than ready for lunch, so I whipped up a random mix from the fridge: Sautéed kale, roasted parsnips, ground chicken, green onions, and feta. Mmm!

Then, it was off to the porch to get some more work done and enjoy the beautiful weather. I also finished my iced coffee from the morning.

Afternoon snack: Rice cake with White Bean Honey Spread – recipe coming to CNC soon! Side note: Later that day, Quinn saw me eating some with a spoon (straight from the jar) and asked me what it was. I told him “cookie dough,” so, of course, he wanted some. He loved it and actually ended up eating a small bowl of it with a spoon. I’m pretty sure it was his first time ever eating beans! 🙂

Once I wrapped up work for the day, I picked Qman up from school and headed back home to relax. He helped me take out the pillows for our couch on the back deck. He’s such a good helper! 🙂

Then, we played outside for awhile while we waited for Dada to get home. (He was purchasing Qman’s new swing set!!)

Dinner was quite tasty! In the mix: Carrot noodles (from Trader Joe’s), peas, chicken breast, feta, and a bunch of Everything but the Bagel Seasoning (also from TJ’s). I received a few questions about the carrot noodles from TJ’s and they are awe-some. So easy to make (just heat in a skillet) and so tasty (I actually burnt mine a little by mistake and it made them taste so good)!

Mother’s Day Eve

Happy, happy “mudders” day to all you moms!! And daughters and grandmoms and friends and spouses of moms. And basically anyone who helps to raise our children — teachers, doctors, coaches, counselors, friends we thank you! After all, it takes a village. I’ll be sharing my Mother’s Day recap tomorrow but first, Mother’s Day Eve, as Mazen called it!

Friday, Mazen was with Matt (making me a special MD treat!) and I worked till the clock struck 6, which meant I had a glass of wine to keep me company for that last hour ; )

The weather here Friday was dreary and wet, so T and I had a pizza and movie night.

Saturday morning I took Mazen to cooking club!! They were having a special Mother’s Day class so the kids could prepare a special meal for their moms. Such a perfect idea! Thomas and I took the opportunity to go out to breakfast Mariebette.

We had an epic breakfast of pastries, baked eggs, and cappuccino!

Afterwards, we ran some errands and I treated myself to a gel manicure new color choice!

We also cleaned out the garage. I should have taken a before pic you couldn’t see the back!

I picked Mazen up, and we played super heroes and ran around the house (well, some of us did ; ) )

I sat down with a glass of this another great wine from the Winc Wine Club! Love the pretty bottle. I think I can say that he loves me, though!

Mazen, bless his heart, tried to give me all of my necklaces for Mother’s Day, which ended up in a huge knot that I spent 30 minutes untangling during bath time.

After baths, it was time to get ready for our special dinner!! Mazen was very excited to be in charge.

We had pasta salad, chopped salad, and homemade bread for our main meal.

Note the insane amount of dressing he poured on his salad. I am happy to report that he ate most of what was on his plate though, veggies included.

For dessert, we had chocolate mousse that was HEAVENLY (hoping they share the recipe!) and fresh strawberries to dip! Mazen served us everything.

YUM!

After bedtime, Thomas and I watched more Westworld. I am LOVING it! We are on the finale now. What a unique concept for a show! Go watch it! It’s a great show for couples because it’s not too far on either side of the action / romance spectrum. There is a little something for everyone. I also started Big Little Lies (Go HBO!) after finishing the book, and the TV show is awesome! I think what I like most of all is seeing their stunning California mansions.
