37 Life Lessons

Today, I turn the big 3-7! We celebrated over the weekend with a small get-together at our house – complete with peanut butter cup cake, presents, and lots of laughs!

While I definitely enjoyed celebrating with my family and friends, I also love using this time to reflect on my years and the incredible life I’ve been given. I’ve definitely learned A LOT in the past 37 years and thought it would be fun to share 37 life lessons (with some favorite quotes mixed in) in honor of my birthday! I hope you enjoy!

  1. “The first wealth is health.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
  2. Accept and adjust.
  3. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
  4. Count your blessings everyday.
  5. You can do anything you want as long as you don’t make excuses.
  6. If you don’t like something about your life, change it.
  7. You love who you love.
  8. “Surround yourself only with people who lift you higher.” -Oprah
  9. Don’t eat yellow snow.
  10. If you’re not kind on the Internet, you’re not kind.
  11. Being a little less perfect makes you a little more consistent.
  12. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
  13. The little things in life are the big things.
  14. There’s always room for cake.
  15. Comparison is the thief of joy.
  16. Trust the timing of your life.
  17. Age is just a number.
  18. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
  19. Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.
  20. Iced coffee makes everything better.
  21. Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.
  22. It’s just a bad day; not a bad life.
  23. Energy. Attitude. Can’t fail.
  24. Pug people are the best people.
  25. Whining gets you no where. <– we tell Qman this a lot! 🙂
  26. Fruit is not dessert.
  27. Nobody is too busy; it’s just a matter of priorities.
  28. YOU create your own opportunities.
  29. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
  30. “If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great.” – Tom Hanks

  32. “People who love to eat are always the best people.” – Julia Child
  33. Let your past make you better, not bitter.
  34. If ‘Plan A’ fails, remember there are 25 more letters in the alphabet.
  35. Scary can be good.
  36. Everything happens for a reason.

^^ When you haven’t stopped playing in 2 hours but need some fishy fuel!!

Hope you all had great weekends and Happy Father’s Days! I started my weekend with a little pampering with Miss Lauren! We tried out the new Mary Kay charcoal mask. Hot look!

I left Lauren’s and got a late afternoon mani/pedi – hot pink for summer!

Friday night Thomas and I went to C&O bar. We had some celebrating to do – business goals and also our first date night out since our engagement, so it seemed fitting that we went back to the spot where we met for our first date 🙂

We shared a bunch of dishes – arugula salad, scallops with whipped cauliflower, jalapeno corn, halibut and chocolate mousse.

On Saturday morning I took advantage of the fact that Mazen was with Matt and got up for Bradley’s ath con class, which starts at 7:55. It was a nice blend of cardio and weights. Afterwards, I joined a group at Brazos for brunch.

This is one of their breakfast plates and you can DIY your breakfast tacos.

Also, so filling. I ate every bite and there was no need for lunch.

Thirst quencher! #LUMI

When I got home, Thomas was working on putting in the second the two doors we replaced. This one luckily went better than the first install!

She’s a beauty! It’s actually the very same Therma-Tru door I put in my old house out to the porch. The full light window makes SUCH a difference, and I am in love!

To get out of Thomas’s way, Mazen and I went to the pool for the afternoon. Charlottesville Families In Action was founded this year to encourage kids and families to get involved in community engagement and service. They held a year-end party with soccer games and music from 123 Andres, a fun Latin band for kids, at the Fry’s Spring Beach Club. Ticket proceeds went to the Legal Aid Justice Center, so Mazen and I went to show our support and relax by the pool.

He played and swam and played and swam! We knew lots of other families there too.

Back at home, I put together a salad from the garden that we paired with some Belmont Pizza. Both boys LOVE pizza, so it’s a staple in our house. (Well who am I kidding, I love it too!)

This boy is such a good eater now, and we measured him this morning to discover he has grown a whole inch since February! (He’s slouched a little here, but straight up he hit the mark.)

Sadly mommy hasn’t grown since 8th grade.

Sunday breakfast vibes + Father’s Day cards for all the dads!

On Sunday Mazen spent time with Matt, Thomas went out golfing with his dad and brother, and I had the house to myself to clean, organize and relax in. I had leftover pizza for lunch and plan to spend some afternoon time at the pool.
