Goodbye, Sugar Addiction!

By Guest

It’s Friday, everyone! And that means another Primal Blueprint Real Life Story from a Mark’s Daily Apple reader. If you have your own success story and would like to share it with me and the Mark’s Daily Apple community please contact me here. I’ll continue to publish these each Friday as long as they keep coming in. Thank you for reading!

My weight gain happened when I was pregnant—I had 2 pregnancies back to back. When my first child was 4 months I was pregnant again, so I didn’t have time to lose the first amount of baby weight I put on. All in all I was 91 pounds heavier.

For years I would yo-yo diet, going on extreme calorie counting diets of
around 700 calories. I would lose loads of weight and once the event was over I would not be able to sustain the low calories and I would pile the weight on plus more.

It got so bad that I stopped taking my kids to school and my husband had to take them! I was fearful of the parents judging me and my weight that I
missed out on so much.

I was depressed, had extreme anxiety, inflammation in my joints, you name it I had it, I was starting to get blurred vision which was worrying as it’s a sign of early onset of diabetes. I was a complete mess but I was still so addicted to sugar.

I was so good at secretly eating and hiding my chocolate and cake wrappers from my husband. I would go to the shops and sneak the sugary treats in the house and then binge eat them in secret. My days revolved around my binges. It got so bad that I would often cry whilst I was bingeing but yet so addicted to the sugar I couldn’t stop!

In my early years I followed a pretty lowish carb diet and held a slim
weight. I had seen Mark’s Daily Apple and I soaked up all the information on how effective a low carb, high fat diet could stop you from craving sugar. I started the diet and I wanted to document my journey on Instagram to keep myself accountable. It’s called @healthy_girl_jen and is quite successful. I put all my time and effort into it and take pictures of my food and also post my transformation pictures.

The low carb diet stopped me from craving the sugar. Months went by and the weight was falling off me. Within 9 months I had lost 84 pounds and by the following year I had lost a total of 91 pounds.

I can’t tell you how much better I felt. I was able to take the kids to
school and go on play dates. My inflammation went, depression, anxiety, blurred vision went. I had the best Christmas ever! I wasn’t insecure, I was able to wear leggings that I had always dreamed to wear!

Thank you very much for all the information you put out there on this low
carb lifestyle! I am living proof that it works! Feel free to follow my Instagram pageI am so passionate about passing on the low carb journey to as many people as possible so they can benefit from all the wonderful things that it gives you!

I have my life back! I am truly blessed!

Wedding Planning IV

We are in the final stretch of wedding planning, friends!

Things like “write vows” and “practice dancing” remain on our to-do list 🙂 We have crossed off so many other things!

One thing was finding an outfit for Mazen.

I ended up returning the suit I bought for him on Amazon because he hated the pants. Instead, we took the navy blazer + khakis route – and he likes it!

We found a blazer at Belk that fit along with a cute blue shirt, bow tie, and khaki pants.

My BFF Lauren hemmed the pants for us, which was such a lifesaver!

His little bow tie complements the groomsmen’s ties well too. I bought him a new (clean!) pair of Tommy Hilfiger brown loafers from Zappos. (Not pictured!) Thomas said his gray Sperry’s were too dirty to wear! 😉

We decided on our menu!

It is going to be served family style, and cake flavors… a vanilla layer for her and a chocolate layer for him!

Hers is vanilla bean, passionfruit curd, vanilla cake, with berries, and frosting. His is chocolate cake, vanilla custard, chocolate mousse, and chocolate ganache. #oppositesattract

I love the look of textured frosting, so we requested that, plus flowers for our design. I bought a wood slice, but it looks small to me, so we might have to nix it at the last minute. I can’t wait to see (and taste!) it.

Our marriage license has been procured!

Custom napkins have arrived!

I ordered a set of coordinating patterns from Dot and Army, the same company who did my sister’s wedding napkins. I love them, and I’m excited to keep using them for the years to come!

And finally, I want to share this great marriage e-book I read!

It’s called The Marriage Manifesto and has some really great advice. It’s also short, so you can read it in a matter of hours (or less). You might even be able to convince your partner to read it too. It’s written by Kelly Flanagan, PhD, who also has a website full of good advice

This is the part of the book that I really loved:

In marriage, losing is letting go of the need to fix everything for your partner, listening to their darkest parts with a heartache rather than a solution.

It’s being even more present in the painful moments than in the good times.

It’s finding ways to be humble and open, even when everything in you says that you’re right and they are wrong.

It’s doing what is right and good for your spouse, even when big things need to be sacrificed, like a job, or a relationship, or an ego.

It is forgiveness, quickly and voluntarily.

It is eliminating anything from your life—even the things you love—if they are keeping you from attending, caring, and serving.

It is seeking peace by accepting the healthy but crazy-making things about your partner because, you remember, those were the things you fell in love with in the first place.

– A Marriage Rebellion from The Marriage Manifesto by Kelly Flanagan, PhD

Question for all of you: What was the best marriage advice you ever received?

What I’m Loving Lately 95

Hi, guys! Happy FRIYAY to you!

I’m really excited for the weekend. We have a fun one planned with all sorts of awesome adventures on the agenda. I’ve also just really missed my boys this week (it was a crazy few days), so I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with them. Now that we’ve made it to Friday, here’s the next edition of What I’m Loving Lately. Enjoy!

Hosting our first webinar – Woohoo! I swear figuring out the technology was the hardest part! Haha! If you missed it, you can view the recording here: Grow Your Coaching Business with Nutrition House Software.

A New Day Long Sleeve Hoodie Tunic – I saw this hoodie in a Target flyer that came to my house yesterday, and I absolutely love the look of it. I’m planning to take a trip over to Target today or tomorrow to see it in person. It’s super cute, cozy, and priced right!

Poppy Hand-Crafted Salted Caramel Popcorn – Holy cow, this popcorn is amazing! The brand sent us a few flavors to sample, and we cannot keep our hands out of the bag! We also tried the Pumpkin Spice Caramel Popcorn – and the bag was gone in less than 24 hours! So delish! It’s made with wholesome ingredients (no funny chemicals or anything like that), and the company makes the most adorable gifts, especially if you’re from North Carolina. Definitely check them out!

Honeycrisp apple cider seltzer – I stumbled upon this new apple cider seltzer at Stop & Shop, and I immediately fell in love at first sip. I NEED to get more! 🙂

Mind Pump Podcast – I’ve blogged about this podcast in the past, but I especially liked this episode – lots of interesting info and awesome life-nuggets.

Bomber Jacket – I bought this jacket back in the spring, but it’s become a fall staple recently. I can easily dress it up or down, so I’m wearing on repeat lately. And, awesome news for you guys, it’s 20% off now! 🙂

Flourless Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bars – Hellooooo! These look amazing and so easy to make. I especially love that they don’t have a zillion, hard-to-find ingredients in them!

This quote – Here’s what I had to say about it.

Surviving the Start-Up – Great work-life balance advice from our business mentor, Dan Martell. He talks about boundaries and “non-negotiables,” focusing on being present when you’re with your kids, the idea of the “Family CEO” and “Relationship CEO,” blocking time to get major projects done, and more!

Pumpkin Spice Puppy Chow – I love Puppy Chow so much – definitely need to make this pumpkin spice version this fall!

Question of the Day

Pumpkin everything: Hooray or kind of annoying?
