Should You Track Sleep?

Image
Tracking certain things makes sense, if you go for that sort of thing. Tracking step count is hard without a device. No one’s going to count every step they take in their head. You’d quickly go mad doing that. Same with pulse rate and heart rate variability —you could count the number of beats for 30 seconds and double it to get BPM, but that gets unwieldy after awhile and HRV requires a special device. But tracking sleep? On the surface, sleep tracking seems futile and pointless. If there’s anything you should know intuitively without having to measure, it should be whether or not you got a good night’s sleep. You wake up and see how you feel. Are you groggy? Irritable? Did you just crack an egg into the coffee maker, brush your teeth with light roast beans, kiss your dog good morning and let your spouse out to pee? You probably didn’t sleep very well. Are you rested? Full of vim and vigor? Can you perform basic bodily functions without requiring a mug of coffee first thing? You p

How I Am Supporting My Immune System Right Now

This week I was supposed to be in California attending the biggest natural products show in the U.S. I prepared weeks for this show. Everything from lining up meetings, to preparing frozen meals to take with me for my daughter to eat while I was busy working and lots and lots of packing! It was stressful but it was going to be so worth it. Thomas and I get up but I’m slower than he is and he surprises me with coffee on my night stand <3 5:45 Leave house for my workout: Afterburn class. I have about 1/3 of my coffee before class but usually don’t have anything to eat. I greet my mug again on the ride home and am always so glad to have it! 6:10 Afterburn starts. This class is killer. I burn about 400 calories in 50 minutes according to my Apple Watch . 7:15 Back at home Birch is having breakfast. Thomas usually works until about 6:30 and then we tag team showering, breakfasts and getting Mazen on the bus. I take a speed shower and Birch terrorizes my room while I get dressed, pulling clothes out of drawers. I pick the room back up and we head back downstairs. He plays with his cups while I make breakfast. 7:30 We say goodbye to daddy who leaves for work. Birch didn’t eat
