This Cajun chicken wrap is loaded with flavor! The chicken filling is seasoned with Cajun spices and served on a whole-grain tortilla. Served with one of your favorite sides, it makes a tasty, satisfying meal that has lots of great flavors.
This tasty chicken wrap has a good-sized portion of chicken, a good helping of low-calorie veggies, and healthy fat, keeping it far healthier than your typical wrap.
What Is A Cajun Chicken Wrap?
A Cajun chicken wrap is somewhat similar to a fajita wrap in that the main part of the filling is the meat (chicken or beef) with peppers and onions. But that’s where the similarities stop.
The seasoning is totally different, offering you a great way to buy the same ingredients while getting two very different tasting meals out of them.
Is a Cajun Chicken Wrap Healthy?
As with any wrap, it all depends on what you put in it and what your tortillas are made of. While “healthy” is relative, this particular recipe is a cut above the rest because it uses a whole-grain tortilla, fresh veggies, healthy fats, and delicious seasoning that is made of just herbs. No sugar or preservatives!
Ingredient Variations For Different Diets
Vegetarian Cajun Chicken Wraps
To make this vegetarian, you can use portobello mushrooms in place of the chicken and ensure your wrap is vegetarian.
Vegan Cajun Chicken Wraps
As with the vegetarian version, you can substitute the chicken with portobello mushrooms or any vegan meal replacement you prefer. Avoid cheese or use vegan cheese and ensure that your wrap is also vegan.
Keto Cajun Chicken Wraps
For a keto version (or low-carb version), make sure your tortilla is keto (egg wraps make a good substitute here). Use extra cheese and plenty of oil to cook the chicken and veggies. Also, go light on the peppers and onions because the carbs can really add up with those.
Dairy-Free Cajun Chicken Wraps
This recipe is naturally dairy-free. But I’ll state the obvious and say you shouldn’t add any cheese. (Or use vegan cheese.
Gluten-Free Chicken Wraps
If you purchase your Cajun seasoning, you’ll want to ensure that it’s gluten-free. Also, use a gluten-free wrap.
Extra Toppings
If you want to fill up your wrap a bit more, you can add cheese (provolone is a good choice), and/or use ranch dressing as a sauce. Fresh basil leaves are another way to flesh out the flavors a bit if you choose. You can also add a small amount of fresh lemon juice to the pan while cooking the vegetables (onion slices and red pepper slices) and chicken pieces. Avocado is also a nice addition. And lastly, for some extra spiciness, add a sprinkle of ground black pepper.
Cajust Chicken Wraps Ingredient Checklist
½ lb. boneless skinless chicken breast – about 1 medium breast.
2 tsp. cajun seasoning – Make it or purchase a brand with no added sugar. For stronger flavoring, you can add up to 2 tablespoons of cajun seasoning. But that’s pretty darn strong.
½ medium red onion – sliced
½ medium red bell pepper – sliced
2 slices of tomato – chopped – approx. a ½ cup
¼ cup thinly sliced lettuce – Any kind. I used romaine.
2 standard whole-grain tortillas – Use whatever tortilla or wrap fits your eating plan.
How To Make Cajun Chicken Wraps
Slice the onion and red bell pepper.
Slice the chicken breast. (It’s partially cooked in this photo, but you should use a raw breast)
Slice the lettuce and chop the tomatoes.
In a skillet, sauté the peppers, onions, and chicken in oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. It can be helpful to use a nonstick skillet, but any skillet will do. Sprinkle the Cajun seasoning and some salt over everything as you cook.
Lay out a tortilla.
Layer the lettuce, tomatoes, and the chicken mixture from the pay over the tortilla.
Fold the top over and roll up the wrap.
Slice in half.
Serve.
What To Serve With Cajun Chicken Wraps
A nice salad makes a great pairing with this. But you can also serve this with fries, sweet potato fries, chips, or fresh fruit.
For a dip, you can use ranch dressing or mix mayonnaise with a bit of Cajun seasoning.
How To Store Cajun Chicken Wraps
These can be wrapped in parchment (to keep them wrapped up) and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, as long as you don’t add any dressing to the filling.
How To Reheat Cajun Chicken Wraps
The best way to reheat these is in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes.
