9 Protein-Packed Lunch Ideas

Image
Lunches can get SO boring! Who’s with me? The same old salad and grilled chicken (or let’s be honest, rice cakes + almond butter or anything you can grab on the go) sometimes just doesn’t cut it. I get weekly requests from many of my readers and clients for delicious and nutritious lunch ideas. I thought it would be fun to share 9 of my favorite protein-packed meals that are perfect for spicing up lunch! Many of these recipes can be made ahead of time – easy to bring to work or eat at home. And, they are all perfect for summertime – light, refreshing, and so very filling! Which one are you going to try first? Cool Kids On The Block

^^ Just your average Wednesday walk to school I am working on travel plans to both Chicago and Los Angeles for a big partnership I am doing this month, so I spent my morning working through paperwork for that. Excited to tell you more! I missed my window to go to strength class today so I decided to run instead. This decision was also swayed by the fact that according to the weatherman, today is our last sunny day in a while. I almost missed my window to go for a run too because I was getting so hungry so I had a nice banana before talking Gussie for a 3 mile quick run. Just minutes after the above photo was taken we ran into a SNAKE!! No thank you!!! I immediately turned around. The encounter got me thinking about those of you who run into alligators or worse…bears!… on your runs. Tell me, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever stumbled upon during a run? Back at the casa I took a shower and just finished this lunch of leftover salmon salad and Red, Hot, Blues. Cur...

What’s the Difference Between Primal and Paleo?

Image
The paleo diet and Primal Blueprint way of eating (a.k.a. Primal) are both based on similar evolutionary science. The story goes something like this. Our modern Western diet bears little resemblance to the eating habits of early humans throughout several 100,000 years of evolutionary history. Instead, since the Agricultural Revolution some mere 10,000 years ago, we’ve adopted a nutritional regime to which our physiology is poorly adapted. When the basics of our diet return to the patterns of our pre-agricultural ancestors, we work with, instead of against, our physiology. More simply: eat as our ancestors ate, and we’ll be healthier for it . The paleo diet and Primal Blueprint both recommend limiting carb intake (especially grains ) to only as many as you require for performance, eating more protein  and fat, and including  lots of veggies as a base. But in the midst of this common ground are some key differences. Back when Primal was just getting started (around t...

Lampo + Waffles

Image
^^Mazen lookin’ fierce for dinner last night! (Jacket is  Gap Kids from KK! Shirt Carter’s from Grammie. Shoes Sperry from me!) Bright much?! Yay for sun though! We took Thomas’s mom to Lampo for her birthday dinner and had a great time. Love that place! The olives with hints of rosemary and orange! The kale salad with its candied almonds!! SO many good dishes. I had a red wine from Montepulciano, and this morning I realized that’s where my parents are right now! We shared three pizzas (and brought some home for lunch) – the Margherita, Abruzzo (meatball) and the Proscuitto (with all its lemony arugula goodness). <3 For birthday dessert we shared the chocolate pudding with salted hazelnut brittle. YUM! Mazen’s imagination is so cute – I discovered him in his pirate costume when I checked the monitor at bedtime : ) After a good night’s sleep I enjoyed this PB&J waffle. I cut it into four and am eating it toast-style. I love how crispy it got in the ...

5 Clean Eating Overnight Oatmeal Packets You Can Prep In Minutes!

Image
If you’ve been following along over the past few weeks, you’ll notice a developing trend. I’m doing several series posts that have 5 recipes each. Why am I doing this? Because one of the biggest complaints I hear about clean eating is not having any time for food prep. My point in sharing these series posts is simply to show you that food prep can literally take minutes. Because honestly, I could scream it from the rooftops all day, but at the end of the day, the only way to prove it is to show you. So that’s exactly what I’m doing. You may have noticed a new section on my blog. It’s called “ Weekend Prep Meals “. This section is new but growing fast and will be filled with recipes you can make in a snap. Recipes that easily store in your freezer. Recipes that take only minutes to put together. Recipes that will make your busy week flow much, much smoother. I mean, you aren’t the only one who doesn’t want to kill an entire weekend with food prep. I don’t either! I’ve got better t...
